Mythology behind Purattasi Saturday
In Hinduism, it is believed that during this month Lord Venkateswara descended to Earth to protect his devotees from the challenges of the Kali Yuga. Also, it is believed that Shani (Saturn) loses his powers in this month. Hence, worshipping Lord Vishnu on Saturdays brings you his graceful blessings and minimizes the malefic effects of Saturn.
Fasting and observing Purattasi Viratham are considered means of atoning for past sins and negative karma. It is believed that by practicing austerity and self-control during this month, they can cleanse themselves spiritually.
Families and communities often come together to observe Purattasi Viratham. It is a time for shared prayers, cultural activities, and strengthening of bonds.
