Maha Shivaratri is an annual festival dedicated to the Lord Shiva. The celebration includes maintaining an all-night vigil and prayers, which is marked as “overcoming darkness and ignorance” in one’s life and the world through Shiva.  According to the legend, Maha Shivaratri was the day when Lord SHIVA drank poisonous negativity to protect the world. “Om Namah Shivaya”, the sacred mantra of Shiva, is chanted throughout the day & night.

At SVT, “Maha Shivaratri” coincides with the 8th day of “Shiva Mahotsavam” celebrations.
